Mental Hygiene: A Daily Check-In

When doubt or discouragement shows up, I find it useful to pause and ask what is going on beneath the surface.

One day, I noticed a run of negative thoughts and could not tell where they came from. I sat still, wrote in my journal, and spent time in prayer. That gave me room to name what I was feeling instead of pushing through it.

Notice The Conversation In Your Head

We all talk to ourselves in our minds. I try to notice when that inner voice becomes harsher than I would be with someone else. A thought can feel convincing without telling the whole story.

Write It Down

Journaling gives me a place to put a thought into words. I can ask what happened, what I am assuming, and what I might be missing. I do not need a perfect answer before I take a useful next step.

Make It A Regular Practice

For me, a short check-in can include quiet, prayer, and a few lines in a notebook. Your routine may look different. The point is to give yourself a chance to notice your thoughts and choose how to respond.
